The re-opening of Manston Airport would have a detrimental and devastating impact on the town of Ramsgate and its surrounds. Ramsgate is a unique area of Georgian and Victorian architecture, with its elegant squares, lawns and crescents. Along with this it has a rich historical heritage. Over the past 20 years it has become a place where individuals with artistic talent and business skills have invested their time, energy and money, both to regenerate the built structure of the area and to establish small 'non-chain' businesses which serve the community and provide work. It has become a place of enterprise and individuality. Many beautiful buildings, which were in danger of deteriorating, have been restored- all without any financial aid from local or national government. Individuals have been prepared to invest their own money. The noise and air pollution that regular flights over its skies will bring, will have a disastrous and inhibiting effect on this regenerative activity. People will not want to invest in the properties, nor in new businesses and visitors and potential customers will be deterred. This will damage the growing economy of this area.
