With regard to re-opening Manston Airport for aviation I list below the main considerations in my view:
Thanet will benefit from an airport at Manston as local jobs will be created in a high unemployment area.
The United Kingdom will benefit in having an airport at Manston as it may be used in emergencies both avaition and if we are on a war footing.
With the predicted increase in air travel Manston would become an important part of UK aviation requirements and assist in taking additional passenger flights from the main airports.
With the likelihood of an additional railway station nearby, and the continuing upgrade of the mainline to St. Pancras, it may be possible in the near future to travel from London to Manston in 50 minutes. This would further alleviate pressure on capital rail travel between major termini, and assist in the growth of Manston.
The re-opening of Manston gives benefits to the local area, and also safeguards the area around from too much house building in an already busy area.
The re-opening of Manston will put Thanet and East Kent on the map. For too long this area has suffered from decline and lack of jobs.
Manston has the eleventh longest runway in the UK, and has one of the widest in Europe. This resource needs to be used for everybody's benefit.
