My name is Ellen French and I am representing myself. I have lived in Ramsgate since 2010 and can remember that there were a few planes flying into Manston airport that flew very low directly over my house in Guildford Lawn. The noise was deafening and, even inside the house, you were unable to continue normal conversation. Prior to 2010 I lived in Canterbury but worked in Thanet as a teacher at St Nicholas-at-Wade C of E Primary school near Manston. Again I remember the planes passing directly over the school causing considerable noise and disruption to normal classroom activities. Some children were clearly frightened and their concentration broken making learning extremely difficult. At that time there were only a few flights, and no night flights, into and out of Manston per week. The thought that this could be increased to over 12,000 flights a year, is truly frightening and will clearly have a detrimental effect on the education of children in all local schools.. It will also make living in this area of Kent a nightmare. Sleeping will be impossible for those of us under the flight path, particularly for young children experiencing the effects of broken nights. If Manston Airport is developed to allow for night flights of cargo planes there will be even more disadvantaged young people in this area.
