I wish to put forward my views on Manston Airport. Not only would Manston Airport provide much needed jobs for the local community it would also provide another form of transport for those working outside the are, those that need to travel across country and abroad. In terms of vacation travel I believe Manston Airport could provide a perfect alternative to London's busy and overstretched airports.
Having previously lived in the flight path I cannot accept the view that the airport would cause unacceptable levels of noise pollution. Houses are often we'll insulated and double glazed to greatly reduce any supposed inconvience in this respect. Do not buy a house near an airport if you do not want to hear planes. Thanet has no infrastructure to accommodate more houses and people. The streets are dirty, bins have been removed from almost every road. Congestion is dreadful and the roads are littered with potholes. Our A&E will close because the Trust does not have the funds to keep running the department on agency nurses and doctors which will mean we will lose our ICU, CCU and Stroke Unit. If Manston were to be filled with more houses and people the situation would only get worse. An airport would provide a much needed new lease of life to Thanet, more visitors would mean a short influx of people but those people as tourists would spend money, money that our shops need. It would also provide jobs and career opportunities to residents that are currently extremely limited. We do not need more houses for displaced families from London boroughs, we do however need jobs for local people, a new exciting prospect for young people and a great chance to provided a serious alternative to London airport's. Manston is also rich with history and to destroy it's status by not allowing it to remain as an airport would be catastrophic. Please make Thanet somewhere are children want to stay rather than a place they can't wait to leave, a place where a career in aviation could excite them rather than a place they have to fight tooth and nail to get a basic job with no career prospects.
