Having lived below the approach to Manston for thirty years plus, I have experienced the noise levels (very intrusive) and the smell of unburnt kerosene after an aircraft has passed. Recent studies have suggested that the pollution from aircraft exhaust is far more damaging than previously thought. There is no such thing as a totally efficient aero engine and I can only forsee a return to the days of 'end of life' aircraft being used in freight role until their scrappage date. Successive companies have striven to run a viable operation from Manston without success and I consider the current interest to be driven by the prospect of future housing development. Such development is inevitable and indeed required. Let us at least have it done by a British company over whom we have some control and not by a somewhat dubious offshore organisation.
