Dear sir / madam

I am writing to object to application RSP has made to reopen Manston airport on the following grounds

Particulate pollution Contrary to RSP’s claim there is scientific uncertainty about the health effects of NO2 . NO2 pollution has been linked to the premature deaths of 23,500 people in the U.K. every year which is linked to lung cancer asthma and cardiovascular illnesses children and older people are particularly vulnerable.

Green house gases Proposals to reduce green house gases are week, often beyond the applicants control and by their own admission, only affect a small percentage of the emissions. They overlook the fact that cargo aircraft are usually the older noisier and more polluting aircraft. A possible 80.000 atm’s a year.combind with that fuel tankers and freight lorries emitting extra pollution in Beltinge Herne Bay and Ramsgate and surrounding villages.

Noise I would like the planning inspector to assess how accurately RSP estimates the impact of noise on Beltinge and Herne Bay especially from night flights as they would be essential if the airport is to be viable. Although the night flights are a great cause for concern by the residents under the flight path.

Planning context

The application carries a high level of risk and uncertainty. It is essentially a commercial operation that needs substantial infrastructure investment to function. If it is not a commercial success the air port is devalued hence thre previous owner selling the site for a pound sterling. Yet the potential commercial operation is highly sensitive to and predicted on strongly disputed forecasts of dedicated air cargo demand and market share.

Forecasts that appear to have been dismissed by every specialist aviation consultancy firm that has considered them.

Yours faithfully

Mrs K E Shewen
