The government recognizes a growing demand for airport capacity, especially as we leave the EU. Adding capacity at Heathrow/Gatwick has proved immensely problematical. A new airport in the Thames Estuary was declared impractical. Manston is an existing airport with potential to quickly absorb demand and ease some of the growth pressures. There is already adequate road infrastructure and the development of the lower Thames crossing and the Manston Gateway rail Terminal will add to existing transport capacity. Manston is a National, Regional and local economic asset that must not be lost. I live on the approach flightpath and bought my property when Manston was a working airport. I am happy to see it reopen. Financial incentives to relocate freight from Heathrow/Gatwick to Manston will ease pressure at those airports.
