My objection to the opening of Manston is based on the disruption incurred to residents of Thanet regards noise day and night. Pollution not just from the aircraft movements but the road freight transportation it will generate on the Thanet way. In view of the desperate need for housing it would make more sense to improve the rail link to London etc and build homes on the airport (up to 7000?) which would automatically generate more employment with local businesses and local government benefitting. There exists a plan to convert the airport into a wonderful environment combining housing, local amenities and a recreational area which I wholly approve of and would be wonderful for Thanet. Much of this area is undergoing redevelopment now and is having a positive effect. Great improvements to the existing infrastructure is happening now which is attracting a lot more tourists to the town the spin off effect is more homes being bought. The airport would absolutely have a retrograde effect and Thanet would slip back into a depressed area. Lastly the Bishopstone downs local to Herne Bay is a beautiful area that is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike and must be preserved and treasured not blighted by aircraft flying overhead. Wonderful cliff and beach walks and a migratory area for wild birds.
