My house is under the flight path of the airport and I would be significantly affected by the introduction of flights from Manston - in particular the prospect of large cargo planes landing at night. This is something that did not happen in the past when the airport was operational. Although my house is to the east of the runway I am told that approximately 30% of the time the wind in is such a direction as to necessitate landing in this direction. Also, I am not confident that I will not be affected by planes taking off as the plan for such aircraft to turn before passing over Herne Bay was often disregarded last time the airport was used. I am also concerned about the increase in air pollution caused, not only by the jet engines, but also by the significant increase in HGV traffic along the A299. This would be as a result of the distribution of the goods handled and the delivery of aviation fuel. Manston is in the very South East corner of the country and the use of airports nearer to the major markets in the UK would reduce the amount of road miles and accompanied CO2 and NOx emissions compared to what is proposed. Finally I am concerned that the location of Manston will also result in the proposed project not being financially viable. The information supplied by RSP regarding employment opportunities and regeneration of the area appears to be over-exaggerated and I am concerned that it will just bring more job losses to the area in the long run.
