I have lived quite close to Manston airport for 18 years. In that time I have seen it operate as an airport of varying types; cargo, passenger, chartered. None have been successful. The airport was originally sited at Manston due to its isolated location. Military operation was the only feasible use. One company after another has failed to make it work as an airport since the US and RAF left the site. The current owners have a forward looking plan for the land which will include extensive facilities for the local population. Something of which Thanet is in desperate need. Along with housing. In addition to this, River Oak has no experience of operating an airport. Their plan is doomed to failure. The environmental impact on the popularity and tourist-reliant area will be devastating. This would be a backward step.
