Though broadly in favour of the application it does not go nearly far enough.Air traffic is estimated to increase twofold in the next 20 to 30 years and the U.K. has no provision to cope so at present this business will be lost the U.K. and go elsewhere. The great demand is in the south east and Manston is not that far from London. It is journey time that matters. Road and rail links are good but could be excellent without vast expense. Expanding to the nearby flat farmland between Minster and Sandwich would allow the construction of a major hub airport with up to 5 runways releasing pressure on the airports currently serving London. The cost would be tiny compared to one new runway at Heathrow, cause far less environmental harm and be capable of functioning in a fraction of the time. This would deliver a an asset of National Strategic Importance.
