I have lived in Thanet for over 20 years and seen many attempts at turning Manston into a thriving passenger airport, unfortunately every attempt has failed and the leading low cost airlines have never used the airport. Without these companies supporting Manston the only real alternative is turning the airport into a freight hub. The prospect of noisy older aircraft flying during the late evening and early morning, the possibility of night flights and hundreds of articulated lorries on our already crowded roads is of great concern to many people in the area.

However, the biggest issue is the local council voting down the local plan and the loss of a prime site for mixed development including the much needed housing that must be built in Thanet over the next 20 odd years. This mixed plan would also potentially create many more long term well paid jobs than a freight hub could ever achieve.
