The main point of my submission is that the re-opening of Manston as an airport will have a detrimental impact on tourism and leisure within the town. Ramsgate is a historic seaside town with beautiful beaches and interesting heritage attractions that provide the basis for a multitude of thriving tourism and leisure outlets, including restaurants, hotels, and holiday homes. I live in Chapel Place a terrace of Grade II listed large Georgian houses that are within the conservation area, and also under the flight path for planes at Manston airport. Since the airport closed I have been developing a small but thriving service offering accommodation to tourists in my home. Everyone is very complimentary about the house, and its peaceful yet central location. I am very concerned that the re-opening of Manston will have a negative impact on my business, since visitors are much less likely to praise the peaceful location if they find themselves staying under a flight path.
As I have lived hear since 2009, I also have personal experience of living under the fight path before the airport shut. I know that the low flying aircraft are unbearably noisy and they have a negative impact on my quality of life.
