Regarding the most appropriate use of the Manston Airport site it is important to examine the “Best Use” of the site. Whilst it would be possible to develop the site for housing and other industrial and leisure uses previous knowledge tells me that when this happens the sites are under-utilised because of the many sterile areas created by the runway and taxi-ways. There is also a common sense approach that tells you when a site has been an airport for approaching 100 years there is a good reason for it. The location, access, site specifics such as the runway length and width etc should all be considered. The development and significant upgrade of the airport at Manston appears a logical step with the many local benefits that it brings. It a post Brexit world and with Heathrow Runway 3 a long way off UK PLC needs to grab every opportunity to exploit our import and export capacity and I see Manston as a vital part of that national infrastructure.
