I am against the proposed development of the Manston site as an airport for the following reasons:

  1. There are strong environmental arguments against this proposal. I live near Pegwell Bay and Pegwell Country Park, which are peaceful areas with an abundance of wildlife, particularly birds. How can the destruction of this habitat and the deterrent effect on bird life that numerous deafeningly noisy, heavy, low-flying aircraft, operating day and night, would undoubtedly cause, possibly be justified? How could any "mitigating measures" possibly be enough?
  2. The noise and pollution caused by an industrial facility, extending across large areas due to the frequent flights, would reduce the quality of life of Thanet residents substantially, generating substantial noise nuisance by day and disrupting sleep at night, as well as creating air pollution. Thanet's residents care deeply about Thanet. The many of us who oppose an airport want it to be a place that people enjoy living and want to visit because it is peaceful and beautiful. A polluting, noisy cargo airport squatting on Thanet would drive away existing residents, blight the tourist industry and put off potential incomers who would otherwise have contributed to prosperity in the area.
