I live in the CT11 area of central Ramsgate which is under the flight path from Manston airport. I strongly object to it's re-opening, particularly as a 'cargo hub'. Any night flights and consequent disruption of sleep would be extremely harmful to my own, and other residents, health and well being. Pollution from aircraft engines would be a serious health hazard. Previously frequent (every 12 minutes) very low flying training circuits have been extremely disruptive and dangerous. An aircraft crashing in the built up area would cause catastrophic damage and loss of life. Huge very low flying aircraft over the harbour and waterfront areas have had a negative effect on tourism. In recent years (since the airport closed) these areas have undergone significant regeneration and the tourist industry is now thriving. Previous operations at the airport have been hugely loss making. The location is too far from the M25 and London to be a practical 'London' airport. The current owners plans for housing , light industry and public open spaces is a much better use for the site. This would also prevent he loss of valuable farm land and amenity spaces for the government house building requirements. A 1993 report by the Department of Trade and Industry found Manston unsuitable for development as a major airport because of its proximity to the town.
