Manston airport is a critical asset to not only the local residents that seek an opportunity for employment but the country as a whole. Capacity for accomodating aircraft, be it for cargo alone or longer term for other commercial aviation is limited and I believe it would be detrimental to the UK if Manston was lost to aviation.

The alternative to aviation is principally development for housing. Thanet has a large proportion of residents that are unemployed and building more houses without providing employment for the occupiers would not be helpful. The developers proposals currently include the provision of industrial units with some assurance that the building facilities will themselves bring emoployment. In fact there are many such industrial units throughout Thanet already and many are unnocupied. Rebirth of Manston as an operating airport would reviatlise the area, attracting employers to the area in addition to employment opportunities within the airport itself.
