Firstly we do not need the extra air cargo capacity. It will not make money. There is enough capacity elsewhere, especially as Heathrow is now set to expand. Secondly, River Oak themselves told me that 70% of flights will come over Ramsgate. That could be one every 10 minutes. The end of the runway is only 4 kilometres away from the centre of Ramsgate's tourist and leisure assets. These will be blighted by the air traffic and cause many jobs to be lost, not gained. Worse still the noise and pollution will cause damage to the health and life chances of the 40,000 children and adults that live in Ramsgate, especially along the flight path. Finally we do need the space for houses and business premises to fulfil our part of the national drive to get more housing.
