I am registering as an ‘interested party’ in the consideration of the development of Manston Airport and the proposed night flights. My concern is that due consideration is given to the “right of individuals to the peaceful enjoyment of their property” under the Human Rights Act of 1998. Thanet has the largest concentration of Listed buildings in the South East (over 2,500), 443 of which are in Ramsgate. Because of their listed status, these would not be allowed to fit standard double-glazing, sound-proofed exterior doors or walling, which other airports offer as compensation for night flight activity. Secondary glazing of doors is acknowledged by the Gatwick airport website as ineffective in reducing noise and secondary glazing of Regency curved windows is not possible. The 443 Listed Property owners of Ramsgate (and indeed the 2,500 Listed properties of Thanet) would be some of the most adversely impacted by the proposal, suffering intolerable noise. I also ask that consideration is given to the potential economic loss to businesses that rely on the attractiveness of Thanet for their livelihoods. As a business owner, it is my deep concern that the current trend of people with disposable income coming to Thanet will be slowed, or even reversed if the plan for 24-hour freight is implemented.
