I am a member of the public who used Manston Airport when it was open in the past for leisure travel. The convenience to the travelling public of having a local airport cannot be underestimated. Less time on motorways, less pollution - no need to pay for overnight hotels at departure airports - a cost-effective convenient solution, bringing employment to a relatively deprived area of the country. The facility of reinstating the emergency runway for London Gatwick and London Heathrow, if not also Southend, is a huge safety factor for all flights. We want our airport back - for the local economy, for local facilities, to bring visitors into the south-east for work and leisure - both on social and economic grounds. Don't waste a resource which is already there - reinstate it! .
