- Manston Airport is one of a handful of existing airports capable of handling large cargo and passenger aircraft. Major operational airports in the South East are at capacity so Manston could be reinstated to provide the capacity needed to relieve the shortfall.
- Thanet is an economically deprived area. Manston airport would provide real employment opportunities for local people and help to regenerate the wider economy.
- The airport could relieve cross-Channel transport congestion by bringing time-critical and high value goods into the UK by air rather than by lorry.
- Manston airport could still be required to provide "front line" defence in the event of a military threat to the UK
