  1. Manston Airport is an asset of national significance and must be reopened as an airport in order to assist and accommodate the ever increasing aviation demands for both cargo and passengers, and to supply the additional runway capacity which is greatly needed in the south of England.
  2. Many airports and airfields in England have closed over recent years to be developed into housing, leaving few viable sites available for the inevitable future expansion of general aviation. Manston Airport must never be built on because it’s aviation potential could not easily be replaced.
  3. Manston is in a strategic position, on the south coast, has one of the longest runways in the country, and it would take far less time to renovate and reopen it than it would to build a new runway at Gatwick or Heathrow.
  4. Manston Airport is close in proximity to the Port of Ramsgate, potentially a further asset. High speed rail and the improved M2 make it easily accessible to London.
  5. A properly constructed and well managed airport should bring employment and prosperity to Thanet.
  6. An ever increasing population fuels the need for expansion of general aviation, but also requires more housing. However, there are other sites in Thanet to accommodate housing needs. Such sites will have to be built on at some stage in the future, despite inevitable protests, but Manston must reopen as an airport again, and never be built on. .
