I wish to object to the proposals for the following reasons. 1. Traffic congestion . Whilst this may remove lorries from some roads elsewhere in the country, the trains coming into the terminal will need to be unloaded and goods shipped by road to final destinations. This will lead to a significant increase in heavy traffic on local roads which will not cope. Although the proposals talk about restrictions on local roads for hgvs, if the facility is creating 8000 new jobs these people will presumably travel there by car and use local roads to get there, once again leading to an increase in traffic on local roads. The opening of a slip road to Coventry at the M69 roundabout has long been campaigned against by locals as it will lead to more traffic along Sapcote Road which is already congested at peak times. It can sometimes take five or more minutes to get off our drive. 2 . Pollution. Additional traffic will lead to increased air pollution. In addition the proposals to operate 24 hours will cause noise and light pollution and will significantly impact the quality of life of local residents. Noise from the current railway line can clearly be heard at night but is currently acceptable as few trains are running. With more train traffic the noise will increase. Lights required to run the operation will also cause light pollution. 3. Disturbance to wildlife. Burbage common is a well used, much loved, facility used by local people where deer, foxes , owls, woodpeckers and lots of other wildlife can be seen. A development of this magnitude abutting the facility with the noise and pollution it will cause will have a significant detrimental effect on the wildlife. 4. Loss of green space. Over the last 15-20 years Hinckley and Burbage has been subject to a massive explosion of development with thousands of houses and industrial estates being built. It also seems we must endure even more housing development because Leicester says it can't meet its quota so again Hinckley and Burbage must suffer more and more of its green open spaces being built on. The local population do not want more development and more importantly the local infrastructure cannot support it. If so many jobs are being created by this development then more people will wish to move into the area to be nearer work. There is already pressure on local doctors, dentists, schools, roads etc. Which this development will only exacerbate. I trust that local people and councils will be listened to. It seems that the bigger a proposed development is the less say those who will be directly affected by it will have. Surely this is wrong? Please do not allow this development to proceed.
