I am strongly opposed to the Hinckley warehousing development. There are a large number of vast warehouse complexes in the midlands and other rail-freight interchanges nearby. There is no need whatsoever for another massive development with unnecessary and non-environmentally friendly destruction of the countryside. The area of countryside to be covered by concrete is criss-crossed with footpaths and is and sees massive recreational use by the residents of Hinckley, Burbage and surrounding villages. Burbage common itself, a much loved green area, will be reduced to a small park sandwiched between Burbage and giant warehouses. Road congestion in the area is already terrible, at least in part to recent developments on the A5. The local roads are not suited to the additional traffic that this development will produce. The quality of life of local residents will be negatively impacted in terms of congestion, noise, pollution, lack of green space. The proposed additional entrances/exits on the M69 junction will put the rural nature of West Leicestershire completely in the hands of profiteering developers as it will then be possible to build more and more warehouses and swathes of housing estates to service the warehouses. In short, this proposal is destructive to the environment and to the well being of the local population with no wider benefit to UK residents or the UK economy.
