The proposed HNRFI is being built on open countryside next to the protected Burbage Common. The roads around the area are already very congested and the plans by Tritax to try and overcome this are just not going to help this situation. The access road onto the A47 just adds to any already congested road, and the A5 is becoming a carpark. The idea of putting another slip road on the M69 at Sapcote looks good on paper, however when the M69 was built in the early 1970's, a second slip road at that location was omitted because it was felt that the existing roads wouldn't be able to cope with the extra traffic it would generate. Those roads structures are still the same today, but obviously the traffic using them has risen considerably. The roads to and in the surrounding villages are all very narrow, as many of the houses have no off road parking. Stoney Stanton already had problems with traffic generated by BOC. I understand the need to try and transport goods more effectively from the east coast docks, however putting a huge freight terminal in the middle of the East Midlands countryside is just moving the problems from one area to another. At least the A14 is a dual carriageway whereas most of the major A roads in this area are single carriageway with any plans to improve them constantly being shelved.
