In its quarterly review, the Office of Rail and Road has revealed statistics highlighting the impact of the UK’s economic position on freight rail usage and performance from January to March 2023. The data indicates a significant decrease in freight moved, dropping by seven per cent compared to the previous year. So I ask why this interchange is needed, especially when DIRFT is better suited to serve the area, is closer to Magna Park and the M1 and is still expanding. As well as the East Midlands Gateway being very close to the north too. It is my strong opinion that while there may have been the demand and requirement for this freight terminal several years ago when this application was first thought of, it is now no longer required and will only cause upset amongst residents of all surrounding villages. Especially Narborough which will be essentially cut off by the level crossing.
