Mr Atkin called and requested if Nuclear Power stations were to by-pass planning all togethor in an attempt to speed up the process for Nuclear Power station builds.
Advice given
Confirmed with Mr Atkin that since March 2010 the IPC have been the appropriate consenting body for projects that fall within the thresholds for generating stations as set out in the Planning Act 2008 ("the Act"):
section 15 subsection (2):
A generating station is within this subsection if - (a) it is in England or Wales, (b) It is not an offshore generating station, and (c ) its capacity is more than 50 megawatts.
There is currently no other process for development consent that exists for generating stations of National Importance, other than that set-out by the Act.
