I object to covering valuable farmland with solar panels. From personal experience of a solar panel installation in East Yorkshire I know the power generated in winter when power is needed most is a small fraction of that generated during midsummer. No battery exists that can store power through weeks or months to overcome the seasonal difference in generation. Add into the equation the pressure to transfer heating load from gas to electricity in the manic rush towards zero carbon. When this reaches a significant market share the current winter loading on the electrical generation and distribution will far exceed current figures. If the nation is forced into low carbon generation only nuclear generation has the reliability and sustainability to have any chance of meeting national requirements. Do NOT infringe essential food production space by permitting the intrusion of weather dependent technology.
