I wish to formerly object to the proposed Solar Farm development in Spaldington , Willitoft and Gribthorpe. The proposed project, encompassing an extensive area of 3500 acres, poses a significant threat to our cherished rural landscape within the Vale of York. The land in question serves as the backbone of our local agricultural industry and is crucial for arable farming, which forms the livelihood of many of our residents in this area. The cumulative effect of this project, combined with the existing wind farm , raises serious concerns about the irreversible alteration of the countryside’s character and the destruction of natural habitats that support local biodiversity. The infrastructure required for the solar farm would also impose undue stress on the small winding unclassified roads connecting our villages and hamlets, likely resulting in hazardous traffic conditions and disruption to the tranquility of our communities. It has been almost a year since our community supported by the parish council began a concerted campaign to voice our opposition to this development. The strong resistance from our residents reflects our collective apprehension about the long term consequences this project would have on our environment, property values and overall wellbeing. Therefore I implore the government to re-evaluate the suitability of the proposed site for such an expansive solar farm. Instead should look at alternative sites, particularly brown field land where power stations have been dismantled ( for example Eggborough ), as viable options for renewable energy projects, mitigating the impact on agricultural land and rural communities. Trusting the government will take into account the substantial objections raised by the community and seek a resolution that harmonises the advancement of renewable energy with the preservation of our rural heritage.
