London Gatwick describe the Project as “low impact” yet the proposal is for significant new airport infrastructure, hotels, offices, taxi way, car parks as well as an increase in passenger numbers from 32m (2022) to 75m (2030 onwards). The impact on the local and wider areas will be huge as the northern runway is intended for nose-to-tail take offs of smaller (noisier) aircraft only, in addition to the main runway which will be used for significantly higher number of take offs and landings of all sizes of aircraft. The noise alone will destroy the periods of peace and quiet the surrounding towns enjoy. The aircraft noise tool provided is hard to understand and full of technical figures and jargon so it is difficult to understand how the proposed noise control will actually work. This “second runway by the back door” project should be rejected for all the reasons above, and those given previously when Gatwick has tried to more than double its size in the past despite there being no compelling economic or environmental argument for it growing beyond its current operating model.
