The proposal to move, rebuild then use what was the emergency runway as a live runway, goes against all noise, air pollution and carbon emission targets. It can be dressed up as offering massive financial benefits is total fabrication. There is very low unemployment in the area so all the new jobs that it is claimed the expansion will create, will have to come from outside the area or people moving into the area. Housing availability and infrastructure such as doctor's surgeries, schools, dentists and local traffic will all be severely impacted. This is a very bad and unnecessary proposal. The extra runway in the Southeast was awarded to Heathrow and this is just Gatwick Airport Limited trying to get a second runway through the back door. There is no way this can be interpreted as maximising existing infrastructure at the airport. It requires a totally new runway to be built to the North of the old emergency runway. All very cynical given the net zero targets we all face.
