Gatwick Airport says that the expanded use of the North Runway will be limited to smaller aircraft departures using existing flightpaths. Will this limitation hold good for a considerable guaranteed time or will it be dropped relatively quickly to the detriment of noise levels and air quality? Even just increased departures will have adverse effects on noise and pollution particularly if smaller aircraft are relatively inefficient compared with larger planes. What are smaller planes anyway: those used typically by EasyJet?
