In the current move to reach net zero I’m not sure how almost doubling the capacity of an airport helps reach this. The infrastructure in the area is already stretched, this will not help in the slightest. Although local jobs are promised these are often the first to go in an economic downturn which enhances deprivation in the local area rather than prosperity. Surely if additional capacity is required, development in regional airports makes more sense rather than encouraging people to travel from afar to Gatwick adding to vehicle emissions. The current rail services to Gatwick are already insufficient at current passenger levels and an increase in capacity will only make this worse.
