I strongly oppose the expansion of Gatwick Airport. It is environmentally irresponsible - we already suffer from poor air quality, aircraft noise and climate change impacts, a second runway will make it worse. We should be contributing to Sustainable Development Goals and the expansion ignores important environmental issues. The main driver for the development appears to be economic growth in an area where this is not necessarily desirable. The supposed creation of jobs depends on tourism which is vulnerable to impacts such as pandemics and will cause over development of an already busy area which doesn’t have the infrastructure of housing, hospitals, roads to serve it. The development will further destroy the beauty of the area and turn it into another industrial area like Heathrow which will be busy, overcrowded, and unpleasant to live in.
