I live within a 20 minute walk of Gatwick Airport. When I moved here the ground noise woke me up early and caused me a lot of stress. I am a midwife working shifts and therefore need quality sleep. I have installed triple glazing windows and am less bothered by the noise from the airport. I am very concerned about the increase in airport capacity and the effect of the noise. I understand that I chose to live near an airport but I may chose to move, if the airport grows in size, and the house prices may depreciate, as a result, making moving away a challenge. Despite lots of housing being built recently there has not been enough affordable housing to cope with the numbers of low paid roles an airport economy generates! We have Heathrow and Stansted airports within and hours drive of Gatwick airport. Surely it makes more sense to develop an airport in middle England where there is more space and affordable housing! There has been a lot of housing development, over the last few years, in the local area to Gatwick airport and the road system is becoming very congested. Although the M23 connects to the airport the local roads will not cope with increased traffic with not only passengers but staff, goods and supplies needed.
