To bring the second runway at Gatwick into mainstream use would be a significant mistake, because of the following impacts: - It would have a considerably negative impact on progress towards net zero targets. Climate change means we have to imagine a different world, not persist in the same negative, escalating policies which have created the catastrophe we are facing. - It would lead to considerable increase in aircraft noise, already a problem across the region, with its negative impacts on wellbeing for significant population numbers. - There is already considerable pressure on surface transport routes, affordable housing and amenities in the area: further expansion would create intolerable pressure on countryside and natural systems, at at time when the emphasis should be on the restoration of nature. In short, the proposals for the second runway run counter to the development of a sustainable approach to development, and increase the negative impacts upon escalating climate change and loss of nature. It would be illogical, unreasonable and even foolish to proceed with the second runway.
