The Government asked airports to look at existing infrastructure to expand capacity. Relocating the emergency runway at Gatwick 12 meters to the North is not existing infrastructure, it is a new and 2nd runway for Gatwick. The Davies report supported a second runway at Heathrow, not Gatwick and this is the position that the Government has supported. For the Government to support this proposal would be a complete U turn of Government policy. The infrastructure around Gatwick cannot support proposed expansion, there is one main road in and out of the airport and one railway line and there are not enough schools, hospitals, doctors etc to support a population expansion in the area.
