Rural Roads are already under pressure and it will become worse from Gatwick Airport New Northern Runway which proposes doubling the amount of passenger traffic yearly from 45 million to 90 million. This will mean many more flights and apart from the increase in noise events, circulating around the villages to the north of the airport, there is NO funding agreement proposed for rural road traffic planning indeed, the application includes additional car parking at the airport to handle the vast number of passengers expected. We already know that when the M25 or M23 breakdown, we see our rural roads considerably more congested, the problem is likely to be worsened if these plans go ahead. We already suffer from excessive noise 24/7 from those uninsured land owners illegally running Gatwick park and ride facilities. Our roads are dangerous now, what happens when you add more vehicles and how is this helping net zero agreements and our environment? Who will pay for more annual maintenance, and crucially road safety? Surrey is already the most congested county outside of London. Rural roads do not have pavements or street lighting in general and this extra traffic will be 24/7 as there is no suggestion of a ban on night flights in the plans submitted. I want to enjoy the countryside where I live but it’s increasingly dangerous to access!
