The logic for national airport infrastructure has to be one of the following three options. 1. We need an international airport able to compete with (for example) Amsterdam and Paris. This has to be Heathrow rather than Gatwick. 2. We need an airport strategy that promotes airport capacity outside of south-east England. 3. We need a strategy that recognises the climate crisis and that doesn't increase airport capacity anywhere. I am not expressing a view on which of options 1, 2 and 3 is correct for the UK. I am expressing the view that there is no coherent national infrastructure strategy where the answer is an increase in capacity of Gatwick.
