Already during the summer months the air quality in our area deteriorates and there is a permanent burning smell in the air. This has been a factor since 2019, when we first noticed the increase in air pollution. During lockdown this disappeared. With increased traffic from Gatwick Airport, which looks set to double, this will only get worse and doubtless will be present in the winter months as well. Road traffic has actually decreased in the immediate vicinity of our home, and yet this odour has returned. In this time of major concern about climate change this is irresponsible until aviation can use something other than fossil fuel. It is ridiculous to expect to make massive changes to vehicles and boilers but continue to expand airports without any due concern to air traffic pollution. If Gatwick gets permission for this expansion then other airports will demand the same and any gains made by other climate change projects will just be negated.
