I live in one of the adjoining villages, in an AONB. Although the flight path is supposed to avoid us, there has been an increase in airline noise and activity, and there is a risk of blight on an area of countryside nationally recognised as a public asset. Climate change effects militate against increase in air travel. Employment opportunity is likely to have little local impact and pay badly. Any financial benefits are likely to be mainly for the benefit of foreign investors. The airport persists in repeated attempts to increase activity although year of attempt and public consultations show their overwhelming unpopularity.
