The idea to plan for a large increase in passenger numbers and airport operations goes against plans to reach net zero carbon emissions. More aircraft will dramatically increase emissions. Already aircraft produce a huge amount of carbon dioxide and we should be working to reduce this not increase it. Notwithstanding the aircraft emissions the project infrastructure will also have a very negative environmental effect, which will presumably be highlighted but the environmental impact assessment. On a personal note the noise pollution from aircraft has gradually increased over the 30 plus years we have lived here and is now at a very intrusive level. I understand newer aircraft are quieter but the sheer volume increase is disturbing. The idea of opening up the emergency runway to increase the volume even further is very upsetting.
