We oppose any expansion of Gatwick while Tunbridge Wells remains under its flight path. Under Civil Aviation Authority guidelines, airlines must avoid overflying heavily built up areas and with a population of some 60,000 inhabitants, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Southborough should only be overflown in exceptional circumstances and not as a matter of routine as is presently the case. Any expansion of flights at Gatwick will inevitably worsen an already unacceptable situation unless departure and arrival flights are prohibited from overflying our urban area.
