In a recent Guardian newspaper article, they report that millions of people have already died globally due to climate change. Millions more have been displaced. In another Guardian article, they report on a newly published scientific model, based on the currently, accurate prediction that the world is on track to warm by 2.7C. This model shows that such warming would make large parts of the world unliveable by 2090. This would likely displace around 3.7 billion people. Food supplies are also increasingly threatened by this crisis. The chaotic, extreme weather, food issues and this huge amount of migration would be a civilisational threat. We must urgently move to a sustainable economy. Air travel is one of the most polluting means of travel. Realistic alternatives to using aviation fuel are many years away. Any expansion of air travel in the near to mid-term will only serve to worsen the climate crisis. Significantly expanding any airport is not needed. We must seek green growth instead. Our longer term, environmental, social, and economic well-being depends on this.
