I live in a village environment, where there are lots of events and village camaraderie. There is a large 'older' community and we need to attract young families and professional people if the village is to continue and survive as a lovely place to live. Unfortunately, we are plagued with low flying aeroplanes and the impact it has on our every day life, so why would they want to move here. As an example of the impact of continual flights on my quality of life, when I watch tv (and it does not matter what room I am in), a plane goes overhead, a bit too low, and my tv suddenly goes blank and the message comes up that I have lost my network and had no signal. As soon as the plane has passed over, normal services resume. Also, every morning, even though my windows are shut I can hear the first planes of the morning going overhead, so unless Gatwick is prepared to replace the windows of my house and put in triple glazing, I can only assume the noise will get worse. On the occasional lovely day, when we invite people around to share a barbeque or two, there are times we cannot hear ourselves think. This impacts my social life a great deal and the thought of Gatwick being allowed to permanently use the emergency runway, fills me with dread for my later years. Especially as they will then turn round and say they need an emergency runway, just in case. I feel their application to permanently use the current emergency runway is just another way of getting round their failed planning application for a second runway. When my (Redacted) grandson, is in the garden he points to the airplane and waves as he thinks they can see him, that's how low they are. On speaking to other community members, it appears we all agree that Emirates are one of the main culprits for flying low. When driving along the A24, you can see the planes that are leaving late actually begin to turn just as they have taken off, hence one of the reasons they are having such an impact on village life. We need to encourage younger people to move to smaller communities for them to survive, but if more flights are allowed, it would be like a death knell on village life.
