I oppose this Gatwick Airport application for an additional runway because it is new and not a development of an existing runway. This does not comply with the Government’s Aviation Strategy. The increase in aircraft noise will significantly impact on my local environment with planes traversing a built up area in the town where I live. Gatwick is located a single main road - the M23. This has been identified as an unsafe smart road. As such, this motorway is already congested with heavy freight and passenger vehicles already causes a regular congestion on residential roads and poor air quality. A second runway will add considerably to this pre-existing problem. The airport is accessed by the Brighton Main Line, which cannot be expanded. A second runway will add an unacceptable burden to the already crowded train system. In addition, the planet is facing a cataclysmic and existential climate emergency. A new runway would add unacceptable levels of carbon and greenhouse gases.
