Dual runway operations using the Northern Runway a sensible utilisation of the space available and will allow more flexibility in what is currently a very full airport operation. In turn this will reduce delays and will provide a better experience for passengers. Whilst this will not result in as large an increase in flights and operations as a full second runway, it will still bring addional operations to the airport which in turn will support the local economy and jobs market. Unlike the building of a full standalone additional runway such as is planned for Heathrow, there will be very little constructions required and no large-scale disruption to the community outside of the airport boundary such as at Heathrow. The current flight paths, which I gather will be retained, means that there is no over flying of the urban areas of Crawley and Horley and instead fly over much less densely populated country so noise impact is kept to a minimum. The northern runway plan is therefore a pragmatic solution which will bring more benefits and I support it.
