The proposed project to build a northern runway is unacceptable as the huge increase in flights would significantly increase both noise and air pollution. Both these factors would have a negative impact on the health and mental wellbeing of local inhabitants. In the climate emergency facing us it would also be inappropriate to allow this scheme which would add greatly to carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. As this is an application for construction of a new runway it does not comply with policy i.e. the Government’s Aviation Strategy. Furthermore, the local infrastructure for expansion of the airport is lacking. There would be insufficient local affordable housing for the extra staff within walking or cycling distance. Rail and road connections to the airport would be unable to cope with the great increase in the number of passengers and workers. There would be a significant increase in congestion on residential roads and a consequent decline in air quality.
