The matter of a second runway at Gatwick has already been previously decided and the decision was to build an additional runway at Heathrow not Gatwick. It is strange how the owners of Gatwick choose to ignore that decision and strive to find a way of working around it, clearly they do not take no for an answer. There is strong opposition locally against a second runway at Gatwick due to the greater air pollution it will cause for residents, infrastructure problems and environmental concerns. The planet needs less airline travel not more if we are to tackle global warming for future generation, we only get one chance at this and we should be seeking to reduce the number of flights. Odd how Gatwick suddenly spotted the emergency runway and wish to convert it into a second runway leaving the airport without a dedicated emergency runway. Gatwick airport seems determined to ride roughshod over residents opposition but I remain firmly against any expansion and would welcome fewer flights instead.
