At a time when the impact of climate change is becoming evermore apparent the impact of air travel must be seriously considered and in so doing the need for another runway at Gatwick - albeit the wider use of an existing emergency runway - should be resisted. The existing noise level from aircraft is detrimental to many peoples' wellbeing and if aircraft using the 'new' runway were to use the same flightpath it would become unbearable. Air travel will, of course, remain an essential part of the transport infrastructure but its negative impacts should be shared around the country not just focussed on London simply because that better suits airlines. I would ask the planning inspectorate to deny Gatwick's application to dramatically expand operations.
